Welcome to Windward
|
After suffering some minor damage during hurricane Dorian, Windward now boasts hurricane doors and windows, and is ready for new visitors! A two minute walk from the Main Ferry Dock and Lighthouse Liquors, two doors down from St. James Methodist Church, and a five minute walk from the market, the Windward House is in the heart of the settlement of Hope Town. Windward is one of the largest homes within the settlement. With 2200 square feet, four bedrooms and three full bathrooms, it's an extraordinary spot for two families or four couples. Overflow sleeping accommodations include a queen sized snore box over looking the Harbour, child-sized bay dormer seats (great for kids), and roll away cots. This allows large groups to stay together under one roof. The two massive upstairs bedrooms divide the level and share a large master bath. The western room overlooks the Harbour offering a stunning view of the sunsets behind the lighthouse. The eastern room overlooks the white sandy beach and turquoise waters of the Atlantic and in the evenings, offer an unforgettable star-gazing location. Lower bedrooms are identical master suites each with full bathrooms and private balconies facing the picturesque settlement and Harbour.

Windward sports a fully equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances, a five burner gas stove, dishwasher, full sized oven, microwave, and a side-by-side refrigerator. Granite countertops and exotic tropical hardwoods from the most stringently regulated Central American forests adorn the house and render the walls of the house a natural work of art. The open lower level floor plan includes a desk, living room, dining area and kitchen. Hurricane glass, bifold doors swing open, bringing the seascape and beach to your living room and kitchen. We are working to get Wireless Internet up and running post Dorian. Downstairs bedroom's offer limited A/C split units and upstairs utilizes a limited central air system. The AC units offer limited cool air isolated to the bedrooms. Windward has a backup diesel generator.

Just off the ocean-side patio, a two mile stretch of white sandy beach curves left, disappearing around the northern point of the island. Coral reefs abound in the Atlantic waters, providing easy access to striking marine worlds for snorkelers. The reefs also break up the strong Atlantic surf, producing calmer waters that are great for all ages. Being within the settlement, Windward's guests are at most a five minute walk from a variety of stores, shops, and fun spots. Grab some of the best fresh pies, breads, and other delectables from Vernon's Grocery and enjoy colorful quotes around the shop. Capt'n Jack's keep things lively hosting Bingo (make sure you yell "Jacks") Monday nights, trivia on Thursdays and a DJ Wednesdays and Fridays after dinner. The answer for those seeking their daily cafés is the Hope Town Coffee House, who beyond roasting their own beans behind the shop, bake their own scones, muffins, and quiches, provide outdoor seating, and display a variety of local artwork in their shop. Boutiques offer a variety of mementos and hand crafted items to remind you of your trip. Locals are exceedingly friendly, always willing to offer help, stories, and history of the area. Hope Town is a quaint, quirky, charming town; an ideal retreat for those wishing for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation in the heart of a historic Bahamian community.
